Survival of the fittest
(2006)
The term "survival of the fittest" was first used by the Victorian naturalist Herbert Spencer (1820-1903) as a metaphor to explain natural selection. Natural selection is the means by which different individuals in a population survive to reproduce. The idea was proposed by Charles Darwin (1809-1882) in 1859 in his book, The Origin of Species by Means of Natural Selection.
