Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, the man of glass : around Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky's Serenade for strings in C major, op. 48

Summary: The Man of Glass draws the viewer into the life of Tchaikovsky and to the sound of one of his most popular pieces, the String Serenade. The film features on-screen performances by the I Musici de Montréal Chamber Orchestra, the actors, and the dancers, blended with original, skilfully crafted documentary vignettes inspired by the life of the composer. Born in 19th-century Russia, Tchaikovsky led a life crowned with success. In the wings of an Italian theater and against a romantic countryside backdrop, dancers and actors poignantly enact various facets of the composer's intimate life: his unavowed homosexuality, his relationship with his wife Antonina, his strange ties to Baroness von Meck, his patron, and the persecution complex that led ultimately to his death
